In September 2024, members of the Knights of Columbus Mumford Council #365 unanimously agreed to dedicate the council scholarship fund to the memory of Daniel C. Mioduszewski. Dan was a past Grand Knight and had served as scholarship chairman for many years. After his passing, the council received generous donations form Dan’s family and the Worcester Polish American Veteran’s, which he was also quite active.
It is our hope that by sharing Dan’s example of courage, service and cheerfulness, we can inspire the next generation to lead through service.
Daniel C. Mioduszewski
May 22, 1945 ~ July 8, 2024 (age 79)
Whitinsville- Daniel C. Mioduszewski, 79, formerly of Whitinsville, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester after a two year battle with Atypical CML an extremely rare form of Leukemia. He was recently predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Mary Lou (Witek) Mioduszewski on December 21, 2023.
He was a resident of Whitinsville for 42 years before moving to Charlton at the family “CAMP” on South Charlton Reservoir in 2017. Born in Worcester, MA on May 22, 1945, Dan was son of the late Chester and Mary (Zajac) Miodusewski and grew up in Worcester.
A longtime banker, Mr. Mioduszewski began his career in banking at Worcester County Institution for Savings in 1967 as a teller working his way up through the ranks to Sr. Vice President. After being bought out by Bank of Boston in 1994, he worked for five more years as Regional Manager of all central/ western MA facilities. He retired from banking in 1999 after 32 years. He was a 1963 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Worcester, where he played basketball, and was a proud “Eagle” to his final days. He earned his BA in English at UMass Amherst in 1967. In 1984 he received a diploma from the National School of Finance and Management after completing their three-year program.
He was a proud US Army Vietnam Combat Veteran, serving as a Staff Sergeant (E-6). He received many military honors including the prestigious Purple Heart and Silver Star Medals for his valorous actions in the Kien Phong Province. He saved the life of a fellow soldier, while being severely injured himself both as result of land mines. They waited for nine hours in the rice patty avoiding detection from the enemy, while waiting for the chopper to return once the sun came back up. He said there was a lot of reflection and prayers during those dark hours. This experience brought him very close to God, and set the stage for his life of giving and honor.
Dan was a proud member of many organizations and charities over the years including the Mumford Council 365 Knights of Columbus where he also served as Grand Knight for two years and President of the Knights of Columbus Corp for three years. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4 out of Worcester, St Mary’s Booster Club, Polish American Veterans Worcester Post where he had served as the Jr. Vice Commander and Adjunct. He was also part of the Northbridge American Legion for 13 years and Charlton American Legion for two years, through 2021. He served as the Director for the Better Business Bureau of Central New England for ten years, the Chairman of the Budget and Finance committee, the first Vice Chairman in the last year before his retirement. He was also Director for the Worcester Tax Payers Association.
He was a loyal member of St. Patrick’s Church in Whitinsville where he served as an acolyte, eucharistic minister, Finance and Baptism Committee member, and altar helper at many funerals. He took special pride in being a 40 year lector by proclaiming the “Word of the Lord”, with the clarity, reverence, and enthusiasm he was know for. He served the town of Northbridge as election poll worker and later Warden of Precinct 1 for 15 years. He was a corporator for the Whitin Community Center.
Dan was considered the life of the party- it was often said that when one of his children Jeff or Tim had a birthday party that it was “Danny’s party in honor of his kids”. Whenever asked how he was doing, up until the very end his answer would always be ‘FANTASTIC!’ Whenever someone would come over the house, the first thing he would do after the door was opened would be to take their coat, the second would be a big hand shake for the guys or hug and kiss for the ladies, and the third would be “what can I get you to drink”. Constant gentleman and gracious host to all who were welcome. Dan loved to dance almost as much as anyone, his skills did not always match his enthusiasm but sometimes it’s just the willingness to get out there that counts, he had that in spades.
