Good Morning Everyone:
Aa many of you know, I am the Chairman of the Board of Our Lady of the Valley School (OLV) and my family has had 16 kids attend this special place. Grace Rett was a student there and I coached her in Basketball. She was a special kid and her parents and her sister Brianne are incredible people. This Athletic and Education Center we will be building in her name is so important to the school community, a community of people of modest means who are dedicated to a faith based education.
Holy Cross Women’s Rower, Grace Rett, set a world record for consecutive indoor rowing (62 hours, three seconds) last year. Just three weeks later, one day after her 20th birthday, Grace was killed when her team van was involved in a tragic accident while on a training trip in Florida. Several other girls were critically injured, including Hannah Strom, who was in a coma for over a month and suffered many serious injuries.
To honor their beloved teammate’s memory, the Holy Cross Women’s Rowing team is going to row THIS WEEKEND for 62 hours and three seconds exactly one year from the time Grace set the world record. The event will also serve as a fundraiser for The G.R.A.C.E. Center, a multipurpose athletic and education facility being built in Grace’s hometown of Uxbridge, Ma.
